Optional Meeting Time: Fridays 10:00 am - 11:00 am

Length of Course: one year

Prerequisite: Arabic 1

Year in School Taken: 10 

Grading: 5 credits

Portfolio

Five assignments will be collected for each student. The 5th assignment is a final exam or project.

Attendance

The EE meets with the student at least 5 times during the semester to answer students' questions about curriculum, explain assignments and provide feedback on student work.

Parental Support

 A minimum of one hour per week must be direct instruction with a tutor, parent, or Arabic instructor

50% ES/Parent Progress Report

25% Portfolio Assignments

Course Overview 

The course is designed to increase vocabulary and knowledge of necessary grammar as well as speaking ability and writing in the Arabic language. Students will learn to use vocabulary, grammar, speaking ability and writing ability in the Arabic language. Students will demonstrate competency by being able to communicate orally and in writing.

Course Goals and/or Major Student Outcomes

  • Students will be able to communicate in Arabic for a variety of purposes.
  • Students will gather, analyze and apply the knowledge learned to real-life situations.
  • Students will expand their understanding of the history and cultures of the Arabic-Speaking people.
  • Students will have gathered experience and knowledge in the Arabic Language and culture. 

Course Objectives

  • Students will further their skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing Arabic Language.
  • Students will build vocabulary and idiomatic expressions to expand their ability to carry on a conversation in the Arabic language.
  • Students will explore the cultural aspects of the daily life of Arabic-speaking people.
  •  Students will continue to learn about Arab countries and their dialects.

Review Test Quarter 1

Students will be able to show comprehension by answering questions from an oral test including vocabulary from the classroom, time, seasons, weather, body parts, numbers 1-1000, clothing, personal descriptions, and activities.

 

Verb Forms Mastery Test

Students will demonstrate success in oral usage and in writing past, present, and future tense (regular and irregular) verb forms.

Foods

Students will be able to identify basic foods, express likes and dislikes, and order from a menu. They will prepare a visual and tell about a favorite food in an oral presentation.

Health and Physical Fitness

Students will be able to talk about foods in relation to healthy eating habits. For a project, they will prepare a health related poster and present it.

Students will demonstrate mastery throughout the course by completing the following activities: • Dialogues

Evaluation of student performance is based on individual abilities, interests, and talents. Methods by which student progress is assessed will be through a variety and/or combination of methods. The methods available include but are not limited to the following:
