Welcome to MS World History: Peoples of the Ancient World (2 of 2)! This course explores early civilizations, from ancient Greek society to the beginning of the Silk Road.

You will study the geographical, political, social, and economic foundations of early civilizations. You will examine the development of civilizations like Rome, Persia, and China. You will look at the geography, early history, cultural development, and economic change of early civilizations. The geographic focus will include the study of physical and political maps, economic development and resources, and migration patterns. You will study the development of philosophies and religions like Judaism, Christianity, Confucianism, and Taoism. Your final grades are based on your ability to show what you have learned through a variety of assessment types: Workbooks, Discussion Boards, Checkpoints, a Final Exam, and a multistep project.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

  • Examine the importance of geography and maps in the ancient world.
  • Trace the development and expansion of democracy in the ancient world.
  • Examine the roles and achievements of leaders. 
  • Explain the importance of art, architecture, language, and literature to a society.
  • Compare and contrast life in Athens and Sparta. 
  • Explain important advancements in societies.
  • Describe the characteristics of society, including political, economic, and social. 
  • Examine the relationship between religion and social order. 
  • Examine how resources affect how people interact. 
  • Reexamine unit concepts by reviewing previous lessons.
  • Examine primary and secondary sources for bias and credibility.
