Course Syllabus

Transcript: Grade 4 Math (1 of 2): Course Introduction

Course Objectives:

  • Interpret and express the value of each place value position as Latex: 10 times the position to the right and one-tenth of the place to the left.
  • Read, write, order, plot, compare, and round multi-digit whole numbers and decimals to the hundredths.
  • Add and subtract multi-digit whole numbers and decimals.
  • Choose compatible numbers and round multi-digit numbers up to the hundred thousands to make estimates.
  • Calculate multiplication and division facts.
  • List all factor pairs for a whole number in the range Latex: 0\textsf{-}Latex: 144\textsf{.}
  • Determine whether a given whole number in the range Latex: 0\textsf{-}Latex: 144 is a multiple of a given single-digit whole number and if it is prime, composite, or neither.
  • Multiply multi-digit whole numbers using different strategies.
  • Multiply and divide to solve word problems involving multiplicative comparison.
  • Calculate whole-number quotients and remainders with up to four-digit dividends and one-digit divisors.
  • Communicate mathematical ideas and their implications.
  • Represent a problem using an input-output table and numerical expression.
  • Generate a whole number or shape pattern that follows a given rule.
  • Write an equation to determine the unknown whole number in any position given in a mathematical or real-world context.
  • Represent multi-step problems using strip diagrams and equations with a letter standing for the unknown quantity.
  • Solve multi-step, whole-number word problems with whole-number answers using the four operations.
  • Determine the mode, median, or range to interpret numerical data.
  • Use a problem-solving model that incorporates analyzing given information, formulating a plan or strategy, determining a solution, justifying the solution, and evaluating the problem-solving process and the reasonableness of the solution.
  • Create and use representations to organize, record, and communicate mathematical ideas.
