    Course Overview:

    Welcome to Bridge 8 Math

Students should expect to spend a considerable amount of time each day (~ 1 hour, on average) on the assigned sections.  Much of the learning is done independently by the student, as the class meets only twice a week.  Many students find it helpful to have a personal tutor or take advantage of drop-in coaching at the learning centers, to assist with homework questions.

During our twice weekly meetings at the learning center, I will answer homework questions from the previous recent assignments, as well as teach new material.  All Homework and quizzes will be assigned through the Canvas online platform but will be completed in Class using Securly.  Homework is done daily and will be submitted through my.hrw.com or through Canvas as assigned. Quizzes & Tests are to be completed when assigned and submitted to the instructor through Canvas.  These are assessments of the students’ understanding of the material. A proctored final exam will determine the formal assessment portion of the overall semester grade.  Math Department classes will not accept late work after the close date of the assignment.

    Below 60% F

Students will be graded on attendance and participation in the class sessions, daily homework assignments, occasional check-up assignments or quizzes, class projects, chapter tests, and a semester final exam.

The final grade is assigned by the EE based on the above breakdown.

Attendance: Attendance is required.  The Truancy Policy applies to Canvas courses. An unexcused absence may be counted as a truancy.

    • Excused Absence is defined as:
The parent shall notify the teacher by phone of the absence at least 24 hours* prior to the time the class meets.
    • Unexcused Absence is defined as:
An absence that does not accompany a parent phone call to the instructor at least 24 hours* prior to the time the class meets.

*If there are extenuating circumstances that do not allow for at least 24 hours, then the teacher must still be notified prior to the start of class; allowances may be made depending on the circumstances. Examples of extenuating circumstances: car accident, sudden illness, etc.
When students are absent, they must look in Canvas, contact the instructor via email or contact another classmate to obtain the homework assignment.

    Absent/Late Work:

    • All assignments are to be completed from the missed class sessions.
    • Students are expected to complete work on or ahead of time if on an planned excused absence.
    •  For unplanned excused absences, turn in work as soon as possible AND be in communication with me about it.
    • Unexcused absences receive NO Attendance/Participation credit for that day.
    • Excused absences receive Attendance, but no Participation credit for that day.
    • Being Tardy will knock one point (out of 5) off of your Attendance grade for that day.
    • Late homework will be accepted for one month, and will lose 10% of its points each week it is late (up to 20% max. Points off).
    • Quizzes and Tests are accepted late and will not lose point value.  Please remember, that turning in work late decreases your successful understanding of the material, mostly because cramming is proven to decrease learning.
    • Make it your goal to turn in each day's work on the day it is due.  Late work makes your teacher's job harder.  Late work stresses your parent and ES more than necessary.  Late work is NOT GOOD FOR YOUR PEACE OF MIND

Daily Homework:  All homework will be submitted through Canvas even though some assignments will also be accessed through my.hrw.com.. You can submit a Word document, PDF or Google Doc (download as a PDF and upload to Canvas) Do NOT submit HEIC files as they are not readable by Canvas. If you are using an apple device to take pictures of your homework for submission, you need to follow this pathway to AVOID using HEIC photos.

    • Choose Settings
    • Choose Camera
    • Choose Formats
    • Choose Most Compatible (will create a jpeg) .

Emailed assignments will not be accepted unless instructed to by your teacher.  I prefer email communication through my CW email and not through the Canvas inbox.

    Test & Quizzes:

The instructor will collect and grade multiple quizzes and tests throughout the semester.  The tests will be posted in Canvas for the students to complete online. You should bring your school owned computer to each class session.  Specific instructions for the quizzes and tests will be given in class and in Canvas, including procedures for submission and due dates.   Due dates and cut-off dates will be posted for each test on the Canvas assignment page. If you don’t take the quiz or test on the day it is due, the assignment automatically closes.  It is the students responsibility to email the teacher with a request to set up a Google Meet to proctor that test/quiz.

Final Exam & Projects: A final exam will be given on the last scheduled day of class for the semester.  The final exam, and two projects per semester, will determine 25% of the overall grade.
