Last Day to Add or Drop is 1/19/24 (Students will be charged the full price of the course if dropping the class after this deadline.)
Course Overview
CWCS’s Math 6 online course offers students the opportunity to study at home while employing technology as a learning tool, meeting with other students in a virtual classroom, and receiving live instruction from a teacher.
This class meets online 3 times per week. Attendance is required and daily homework is expected. In order for students to master the mathematics concepts of this course and be successful in this and future math courses, students should spend time on math EVERY DAY of the week. Specific assignments for each lesson will be given by the instructor (see Homework section). Parents are encouraged to provide additional practice and learning opportunities to help solidify the learning.
Each class period will focus on questions regarding the previous assignments, instruction of new topics, and active participation of all students. Students will receive participation points for actively attending class.
Curriculum
Go Math Curriculum -- Required curriculum may be available at the Learning Center on a first come basis. If needed, ESs can order curriculum using the OPS catalog which will have the most up-to-date pricing. Students will need:
- Go Math! Student Edition Print
- Go Math! Student Edition Online
- Go Math! Practice Skills and Fluency Workbook
- Go Math! California Solution Key
- Other Go Math! components listed in OPS are optional.
Materials
- Working external headset with mic (computer speakers do not work successfully with the Canvas setup). Plug-in headsets (rather than Bluetooth) work best with Jigsaw. After the third week of class and no headset, students may begin to lose participation points for the class. Class is much more engaging if all students can talk in class using their mic. Suggested: Office Depot Logitech Clear-Chat
- Graph Paper and Notebook Paper
- Ruler
- Optional: Spiral Notebook or Composition Book
Requirements
- Class textbook/workbook
- School Google Account - you will use this to log in to various learning platforms such as Jigsaw, Desmos and Khan Academy, and to complete Google Apps for Education-based assignments
- Reliable Internet access

Late Work
Math Department classes will not accept late work after the close date of the assignment. But if you turn in any late work for any reason, you will be graded up to 80% of the total score of the given assignment.
Attendance and Participation
The class will meet three times per week online via BigBlueButton. The class link can be found on the class Canvas website. You will get an email with the invitation a few minutes before the class starts.
Attendance is required. The Truancy Policy applies to Canvas courses. An unexcused absence may be counted as a truancy. Attendance credit will not be given for unexcused absences.
- Excused Absence is defined as:
The parent shall notify the teacher by phone of the absence at least 24 hours* prior to the time the class meets. - Unexcused Absence is defined as:
An absence that does not accompany a parent phone call to the instructor at least 24 hours* prior to the time the class meets.
*If there are extenuating circumstances that do not allow for at least 24 hours, then the teacher must still be notified prior to the start of class; allowances may be made depending on the circumstances. Examples of extenuating circumstances: car accident, sudden illness, etc. Students should arrange a "back up plan" in case of unexpected computer problems the day of the class (i.e. make pre-arrangements to go to a neighbor, friend, relative, library, etc.)
Not only will the students receive instruction during these sessions, but they will participate in answering questions and working out problems. Students may be asked to enter a response to an “Exit Ticket” or other attendance activities to earn attendance credit for that day’s class. This gives the instructor an opportunity to identify strengths and weaknesses of the students and identify concepts that need more instruction. 0-10 points will be earned for each class session, depending on promptness, participation in the class session, and response to the Exit Ticket.
Making Up a Missed Class
Attendance credit for excused absences will be granted by the instructor based on the quality of the make-up work. To make up a missed class session, the student must view the recording of the session (which will be posted as a link on the Canvas website shortly after the session ends). The student must then complete the Exit Ticket by the end of the week.
Daily Homework & Assignments
Daily assignments will be posted online every week. You must check the Math 6 Canvas Class for the homework daily. Types of assignments include online assignments, exercises from the student textbook, exercises from the practice workbook, or other handouts posted online. Students should keep a notebook with all necessary work shown in an organized manner.
Parents will grade student’s assignments. This daily work is shown to the student’s ES during monthly learning record meetings. The ES will be checking for completeness. (The student should correct the answers for accuracy prior to the ES meeting).
Assessments and Projects
The instructor will assign, collect and grade several tests throughout the semester. The tests will be posted on the online class page or the online textbook and may require students to download and print. Specific instructions for the quizzes and tests will be given in class and posted on the class page, including procedures for submission and due dates.
Students will complete one project in the spring semester. There will be no project assigned during fall semester. Instructions for completing and submitting the projects will be posted on the class page.
Late Work
Math Department classes will not accept late work after the close date of the assignment. It is up to the teacher's discretion whether you will get penalized or not for submitting late work.
