The instructional segments are organized to show how energy drives change, from simple to complex. Instructional segment one introduces students to the concept that forces act on objects that cause them to move and collide. In instructional segment two, the relationship of energy to electrical, magnetic, and wave interactions is explored. Instructional segment three investigates how matter is affected by thermal energy. In instructional segment four, how chemical energy and chemical reactions can change the properties of matter is highlighted..
For a detailed outline, please see the pacing guide. Course work and assignments will be based on both California and Common Core standards, see Stanislaus county of education resource page at:
http://www.stancoe.org/SCOE/iss/common_core/next_generation_science/next_gen_science.htm
An example of a Common Core assignment would be to compare and contrast the information gained from experiments, simulations, video or multimedia sources with that gained from reading a text on the same information.

Absences:
CWCS Attendance Policy
The truancy policy applies to Contract Programs courses (including CWCS HQT online courses). An unexcused absence will be counted as a truancy.
-Excused Absence is defined as:
The parent shall notify the teacher by phone of the absence at least 24 hours* prior to the time the class meets.
-Unexcused Absence is defined as:
An absence that does not accompany a parent phone call to the instructor at least 24 hours* prior to the time the class meets.
*If there are extenuating circumstances that do not allow for at least 24 hours, then the teacher must still be notified prior to the start of class; allowances may be made depending on the circumstances. Examples of extenuating circumstances: car accident, sudden illness, etc. Students should email the teacher and ES as soon as possible)
Making Up a Missed Class
Attendance credit for excused absences will be granted by the instructor based on both prior to class communication from the parent or ES about the absence and work from that day being completed within one week of the absence. As there is no participation possible when students are not at school, the grade you will see for excused absences is 2.5/5.
0/5 points of Attendance/participation credit will be given for unexcused absences.
