CWCS’s Math 4 online course offers students the opportunity to study at home while employing technology as a learning tool, meeting with other students in a virtual classroom, and receiving live instruction from a teacher.
Course Overview: This class meets 3 days per week online. Even though the class meets three times each week, completion of daily assignments will be expected. Each class will cover new lesson(s) and homework assignments will be discussed. Students are expected to participate in problem solving.
Curriculum: Required curriculum may be available at the Learning Center on a irst come basis. If needed, ESs can order curriculum using the OPS catalog which will have the most up-to-date pricing. Students will need: • Go Math Curriculum:
o Grade 4 GO Math! Student Edition, ISBN 9780544204058
o Grade 4 Standards Practice Workbook, ISBN 9780544230927
o Grade 4 Online Student Edition, ISBN 9780544537545
Materials:
- Working external headset with mic (computer speakers do not work successfully with the Canvas setup). Plug-in headsets (rather than Bluetooth) work best with Jigsaw. After the third week of class with no headset, students may begin to lose participation points for the class. Class is much more engaging if all students can talk in class using their mic. Suggested: Ofice Depot Logitech Clear-Chat or phone headsets that plug into chromebook.
- Binder Paper
- 1" Binder
- Pencils & Erasers
- Composition Notebook
Requirements:
- Class textbook/workbook
- Gmail Account and ability to open/create word documents and pdfs (Adobe Acrobat Reader) ● Reliable Internet access
- Canvas Login link: https://cwcs.instructure.com/login/canvas
Grading: Students will be graded on attendance and participation, daily homework assignments, and assessments such as quizzes, tests and projects.
Overall course grade:
25% Attendance/Participation
25% Daily Homework
25% Tests & Quizzes
25% ES progress reports
Grading Scale:
85-100% = E
70-84% = S

Attendance: Attendance is required. The Truancy Policy applies to Canvas courses. An unexcused absence may be counted as a truancy.
- Excused Absence is deined as:
The parent shall notify the teacher by phone of the absence at least 24 hours* prior to the time the class meets.
- Unexcused Absence is deined as:
An absence that does not accompany a parent phone call to the instructor at least 24 hours* prior to the time the class meets.
*If there are extenuating circumstances that do not allow for at least 24 hours, then the teacher must still be notiied prior to the start of class; allowances may be made depending on the circumstances. Examples of extenuating circumstances: car accident, sudden illness, etc. Students should arrange a "back up plan" in case of unexpected computer problems the day of the class (i.e. make pre-arrangements to go to a neighbor, friend, relative, library, etc.)
When students are absent, they must contact the instructor via email or contact another classmate to obtain the homework assignment.
Absent Work: To earn attendance credit, a student who is absent-- excused or unexcused-- MUST complete their assigned make-up work within 48 hours of the regularly scheduled class meeting for site based class. Attendance credit will be granted by the instructor based on the quality of the make-up work.
Late Work: Math Department classes will not accept late work after the close date of the assignment
Daily Homework: Daily assignments will be provided by the instructor and should be corrected by parents. Types of assignments include online assignments (Think Central), exercises from the student textbook, exercises from the practice workbook, or other handouts posted in Moodle. Students should keep a notebook with all necessary work shown in an organized manner. This daily work is shown to the ES during learning record meetings. The ES will be checking for completeness.
Test & Quizzes: Assessments will be given at the end of each chapter to check students’ understanding of concepts covered. Tests will be posted in Moodle and need to be submitted before the due date. Late tests will result in reduced credit.
Final Exam & Projects: No projects will be assigned this semester.
