CWCS’s Math 3 online course offers students the opportunity to study at home while employing technology as a learning tool, meeting with other students in a virtual classroom, and receiving live instruction from a teacher.

Overview:   This class meets online 3 times per week via Canvas.  Attendance is required and daily homework is expected.  In order for students to master the mathematics concepts of this course and be successful in this and future math courses, students should spend time on math EVERY DAY of the week.  Specific assignments for each lesson will be given by the instructor (see Homework section).  Parents are encouraged to provide additional practice and learning opportunities to help solidify the learning.

Each class period will focus on questions regarding the previous assignments, instruction of new topics, and active participation of all students.  Students will receive participation points for actively attending class.

25% Assessments & Projects

Grading Scale:

E:  Excellent - consistently meets or exceeds expectations of 3rd grade math standards, attends class, completes all assignments and participates in class. 86% - 100%

S: Satisfactory - meeting expectations of 3rd  grade math standards, attends class, completes  assignments, and participates in class. 70% - 85%

N: Needs improvement - unable to or, with prompting and support, progressing towards meeting 3rd  grade math standards, poor attendance and/or missing assignments 0% - 69%

Attendance: Attendance is required.   Consistency is key to success!!  Not only will the students receive instruction during these sessions, but they will participate in answering questions and working out problems.  This gives the instructor an opportunity to identify strengths and weaknesses of the students, and identify concepts that need more instruction.  0-5 points will be earned for each class session.  The CWCS attendance policy is described below.

The  Truancy Policy  applies to Canvas Courses.  An unexcused absence will be counted as a truancy.
-Excused Absence is defined as:  The parent shall notify the teacher of the absence at least 24 hours* prior to the time the class meets.
-Unexcused Absence is defined as:  An absence that does not accompany parent communication to the instructor at least 24 hours* prior to the time the class meets.

*If there are extenuating circumstances that do not allow for at least 24 hours, then the teacher must still be notified prior to the start of class; allowances may be made depending on the circumstances. Examples of extenuating circumstances: car accident, sudden illness, etc.

Making up a missed class session: To earn attendance credit, a student who is absent-- excused or unexcused-- MUST complete their assigned make-up work within 48 hours of the regularly scheduled class meeting for site based class. Attendance credit will be granted by the instructor based on the quality of the make-up work.

Absent/Late Work: All assignments remain open in ThinkCentral for the entire month. Assignments close on the last Friday of the month (unless otherwise noted) and will not be accepted afterwards. Any ThinkCentral assignment in which the student wishes to earn a higher grade can be made up by completing the same assignment in the student workbook & emailing the instructor the completed pages.

Daily Homework

Daily assignments will be provided by the instructor and should be corrected by parents.  Types of assignments include online assignments (Think Central), exercises from the student textbook,  exercises from the practice workbook, or other handouts posted in Canvas.  Students should keep a notebook with all necessary work shown in an organized manner.  This daily work is shown to the ES during learning record meetings. The ES will be checking for completeness.

Assessments and Projects

Assessments will be given at the end of each chapter to check students’ understanding of concepts covered.  Tests will be posted in Think Central  and need to be submitted before the due date.  Late tests will result in reduced credit.

No projects will be assigned this semester.
