Course Overview:

This course will focus on reading and understanding the common core/state standards found in complex English literature and informational material, as well as writing and vocabulary skills. Students in this  English 8 course will be challenged and asked questions that push them to refer back to what they’ve read. This stresses critical-thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills that are required for success in college, career, and life.

 Writing: Writing is a critical component of this course. Major assignments will require essay writing. Other assignments may include weekly or monthly homework quizzes (multiple choice or short answer), vocabulary quizzes, media projects, oral presentations, & other types of writing assignments.  They will also learn to work collaboratively in group discussions.   

It is important for students to attend classes regularly, to arrive on time weekly, and to participate in meaningful discussions about literary and informational readings.
