This syllabus is for the 9th -12th grade Earth Science course. We will be meeting on Mondays at 10:00 A.M.-11:00 A.M. in the online classroom. All students are expected to be keeping up with the weekly assignments and have headsets or microphones in order to fully participate in class discussions.

Requirements: Internet access, headset (optional), textbook and a notebook which you will use as a class binder

Earth Science, 15th Edition
Student Responsibilities:
Prior to 1st Day of class
- Use the link in the class website to check that your computer has what it needs downloaded to participate in class.
- Review syllabus and be prepared to take a quiz covering class rules & requirements
- Begin class assignments first week of school
Throughout the semester
- Attend the online class every week, be on time, and participate for full participation credit.
- Be sure to participate in class. Some of the ways to do this include opportunities to respond to pole questions, ask questions, and write on the whiteboard when invited. When participating in class be sure not to be disruptive to the class conversation, otherwise there will be a loss of points in the participation grade.
- Check Canvas weekly to make sure you are keeping up with your assignments
- Complete weekly tests prior to each class session.
- Complete all assignments, Homework quizzes projects and tests. Tests will be posted in Canvas and are on-line tests.
Absences:
Any absence from class must be cleared by contacting the instructor PRIOR to class. Viewing the class recording and emailing the teacher a brief summary that week is required for full attendance credit.
Course Summary: We will be covering many interesting topics including Matter and Atomic Structure, Minerals, Igneous, Sedimentary and Metamorphic Rocks, Water, Weathering, Erosion and Soil, Meteorology, Marine Environment, Volcanic, Earthquakes, Solar System, Galaxies and the Universe.
For a detailed outline, please see the pacing guide listed below, which is subject to change throughout the semester. Course work and assignments will be based on both California and Common Core standards, see Stanislaus county of education resource page at the following link:
Attendance / Participation 25% 90-100% = A
Weekly Homework Quizzes 25% 80-89% = B
Weekly Tests 25% 70-79% = C
Final 25% 60-69% = D
0-59% = F
The final grade is assigned by the EE based on the above breakdown.
